Get qualified for Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) professional library technician membership (ALIATec). This course will give you advanced skills and knowledge to work in higher level roles within public, academic and special libraries such as health and law, or in organisations that manage large amounts of information such as a database service or even the military. 

Library and information services is an ever growing and changing sector, and is a vital business service across various industries. This course will give you advanced skills and knowledge to work in higher level roles within public, academic and special libraries such as health and law, or in organisations that manage large amounts of information such as a database service or even the military. 

In this course, you'll gain knowledge and skills in the delivery of library services and related technologies and processes, including how to monitor compliance with copyright and licence requirements;  information literacy skills to locate information ; identifying  and resolving client ICT problems; maintaining digital repositories; managing catalogues and collections, and much more.

On successful completion, you will be able to apply to the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) for professional (Library Technician) membership — ALIATec.

Note: This course is best suited for people who already have some background or experience in this field. If you're unsure, please seek advice from the training provider to see whether this course is the right choice for you.

Completion of this nationally recognised and accredited qualification may provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification or university degree, should you wish to pursue further study in this field.

This course will give you the necessary skills and knowledge to lead teams, undertake complex information enquiries and keep up with emerging technologies and industry trends. Our lecturers are library professionals, up-to-date with industry best practice and with strong connections with local library staff and organisations.

You will be offered up to two (2) supervised work experience placements from a range of libraries.  This will be scheduled within your course timetable. On successful completion of the work experience placements, you will be able to apply to the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) for professional (Library Technician) membership – ALIATec.NMTAFE is the only TAFE in WA offering this Library course!
