Grants and programs

The Waalitj Foundation provides wrap around support services to ‘job ready’ Aboriginal youth (15–30-year-olds), including young people who have exited the justice system, in the Perth, Peel, Goldfields/Esperance, South West and Great Southern regions.

Assistance is provided to participants to address barriers to accessing employment and training, including funding for: 

• high risk training and associated licenses such as White Cards, Forklift and Dogging tickets, and Working at Heights;
• the purchase of work-related PPE and tools;
• identification documents to open bank accounts and apply for a tax file number;
• driving lessons and licencing;
• assistance with transport costs to attend employment, training and interviews; and
• costs associated with enrolment in units of competency/qualifications.

Balanggarra Ventures, in partnership with G’Day Group to provide Aboriginal-led training to Aboriginal people in the hospitality and tourism sector. 

Aboriginal trainees will work at Home Valley Station in the East Kimberley on Balanggarra Country as well as at one of G’Day Parks’ 280 tourist parks throughout Australia.

This program is designed to provide pathways for long-term employment upon completion of the traineeship and greater opportunities for participants to find employment close to their own communities.

Judumul Aboriginal Corporation, in partnership with Mingarwee Aboriginal Corporation, supports Aboriginal people to gain skills in construction, and a pathway to property maintenance employment in the Coolgardie area. 

Supported by local Elders, the program will see long term unemployed people supported with wrap around services whilst completing a Certificate II in Construction Pathways.

Upon completion, participants will have the opportunity to work as a service crew member with Judumul or be supported to start their own maintenance business.

Wunan Foundation, in partnership with Royal Life Saving Society WA, provides Aboriginal youth approaching school-leaving age with a community-led, safe opportunity to secure their first job in the recreation and aquatic sector. 

Participants will obtain skills and qualifications, paid work experience and support services to help them transition successfully from secondary school to employment.

Opportunities will initially be available in Kununurra, Wyndham and Halls Creek and extended to the remote communities of Balgo, Warmun and Kalumbaru.
