The central regional area of WA covers a large part of the State and includes four major regional centres, each one vast and unique — the Goldfields, Wheatbelt, Midwest and Gascoyne. Each region contributes significantly to the State’s economy and workforce.
The Goldfields is a globally significant mining region and is home to major gold and nickel mining operations each offering a high number of jobs in mining, manufacturing, construction, and transport. As one of WA’s largest regional areas the Goldfields also offers diverse employment and business opportunities in a variety of sectors including, retail, education, health, community, administrative services and the creative arts.
As WA’s largest agricultural producer, the Wheatbelt is the source of nearly two-thirds of the State's wheat production, half of its wool production, and the majority of several other agricultural and pastoral products. Mining is also a prominent industry in the region. Both the mining and agricultural sectors in the Wheatbelt have a high demand for skilled and experienced workers and contribute significantly to training opportunities for apprentices and trainees, ensuring a strong workforce for the future.
The region has three Jobs and Skills Centres: Kalgoorlie, Northam and Geraldton, each located on a Central Regional TAFE campus and staffed by an experienced local team. - Kalgoorlie JSC – Provides services across the Goldfields including Wiluna, Kambalda, Coolgardie, Leonora, Laverton, Southern Cross and Norseman.
- Northam JSC – Provides services across the Wheatbelt including Moora and Merredin.
- Geraldton JSC – Provides services across the Midwest and Gascoyne regions including a sub-centre in Carnarvon.
