Rehabilitation counsellors may be employed in government departments, private occupational rehabilitation companies, non-profit disability agencies, state workers’ compensation authorities, income protection and life insurance companies, compulsory third party insurance companies (CTP) and accident authorities, private practices and private rehabilitation services.

They usually work as part of a team of medical, therapy and related rehabilitation personnel. Most rehabilitation counsellors work in an office environment and work regular hours but may also be required to travel to visit clients.

Rehabilitation counsellors may regularly use computers and office equipment to document and maintain records of their interactions with clients. They may also use a range of vocational, physical and psychological tests to assess their clients and determine their needs and progress.
