Entry into Working in Agriculture Skill Set

Get job ready to work in Western Australia's booming agriculture industry, with this short course, and learn how to to work safely in an agricultural environment, including the safe use of chemicals, and gain practical skills relating to the operation and maintenance of agricultural tools and machinery including tractors and other vehicles used in farming. 

There are lots of opportunities in the agricultural industry all around Western Australia, and this skill set will give you the entry level skills and knowledge that employers are looking for.

You will learn how to to work safely in an agricultural environment, including the safe use of chemicals, and gain practical skills relating to the operation and maintenance of agricultural tools and machinery including tractors and other vehicles used in farming. 

This skill set is ideal for anyone with no previous experience in agriculture or farming. It has been designed particularly for people recently migrated to Western Australia who would like to work in agriculture or farming.

This skill set consists of units from nationally recognised and accredited qualifications. Successful completion can provide credit, should you pursue further study in a related qualification.

This program may be delivered over a 2–3-week period to allow for seasonal (wet season) contingencies and cultural events which may prevent or preclude some students completing designated training in the allocated 2-week timeframe.

The local skill set Entry into working in Agriculture has been developed to assist and address labour shortages in the agriculture sector. The training will be targeted to new local entrants to provide strength in the local workforce.

Students who complete the skill set can expect to find employment in entry level positions as a labourer. The farm labourer role may be in small to medium business or in large corporate agricultural operations. On successful completion of this course, students will receive a statement of attainment for the following nationally accredited units:

  • AWCWH201  Participate in work health and safety;
  • AHCCHM201 Apply chemicals under supervision;
  • ACHMOM202 Operate tractors;
  • AHCMOM204 Undertake operational maintenance of machinery; and
  • AHCCHM101 Follow basic chemical safety rules.
