Where front end web development involves everything the end user interacts with, back end web development happens behind the scenes server side. This can include database migrations, API integrations, and setting up server side technology.
Back end web developers integrate databases with websites, develop website information architecture, create and develop REST APIs, and implement Quality Assurance (QA) processes for websites. Through this training, you'll get a full understanding of what it takes to be a web developer, with a focus on back end web development tools and practices.

Completion of this nationally recognised and accredited qualification may provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification or university degree, should you wish to pursue further study in this field.

Front-end is what users see. Back-end is what makes it work. This Diploma takes you into the engineering layer of the modern web: database design, cloud application development, information architecture, big data, and machine learning. You’ll gain practical experience through live client projects and develop the professional skills employers expect at this level, graduating job-ready.

The Perth campus is excited to be offering this course also as part of a dual qualification to give you greater opportunities to advance your career and enhance your skill set. You can choose to enrol in one extra day per week, for two semesters, and graduate with the Diploma of Information Technology (Advanced Programming) plus the Diploma of Information Technology (Back End Web Development).
New students who have not studied the course that precedes this qualification should contact the area to ensure they apply for the correct level of study.
