With this high level training; you'll learn how to design, plan and implement programs and sustainable practices for an aquaculture enterprise and comply with a wide range of legislative and regulatory requirements. You will also learn skills in planning and designing a water supply and disposal system, and stock culture systems and structures, and how to supervise and manage staff. You'll be all set for a leadership role in

  • aquaculture farms or fishout/put-and-take operations;
  • companies providing contract specialist services for aquaculture operations;
  • companies providing consultancy, advisory, equipment sales or other services;
  • hatcheries and nurseries; and
  • live post-harvest holding facilities, such as processing plants, wholesalers or transporters.

Note: This course is suitable for people who already have some background or experience in this field. If you're unsure, please seek advice from the training provider to see whether this course is the right choice for you.

Completion of this nationally recognised and accredited qualification may provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification or university degree, should you wish to pursue further study in this field.

Become a leader in the industry.

This high-level qualification trains you to work in a management or leadership role within the aquaculture sector of the seafood industry. In this role individuals design, plan and implement programs and sustainable practices for an aquaculture enterprise that comply with a wide range of legislative and regulatory requirements.

The environments in which these individuals work include:

  • aquaculture farms or fishout/put-and-take operations,
  • companies providing contract specialist services for aquaculture operations,
  • companies providing consultancy, advisory, equipment sales or other services,
  • hatcheries and nurseries,
  • live post-harvest holding facilities, such as processing plants, wholesalers or transporters.

Locations

Batavia Coast Maritime Institute

This higher level qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to manage the operations of fish farms, marine farms and hatcheries. It is suitable for students that hold a Certificate III in Aquaculture or have substantial aquaculture industry experience.

You will also learn skills in planning and designing a water supply and disposal system, and stock culture systems and structures. You will learn the skills necessary to supervise and manage staff.

The environments in which our graduates work include:

  • aquaculture farms or fishout/put-and-take operations
  • hatcheries and nurseries
  • live post-harvest holding facilities, such as processing plants, wholesalers or transporters
  • pet shops, public aquaria, zoos or other facilities with aquatic animals

Study in a specialist facilities

Fremantle campus features extensive salt and freshwater aquaculture facilities, and experienced staff which offers plenty of relevant hands-on opportunities. Our staff have involved students in the culture and applied research projects of many marine and freshwater organisms over the last two decades including species such as abalone, dhufish, yellowtail kingfish, marron and barramundi.
