Certificate IV in Wool Classing

This is the qualification you'll need to become registered as an Australian Wool Classer. Learn how to prepare fleeces for classing; manage shearing and crutching operations; appraise and class wool and fleeces; prepare wool based on its characteristics; and press and document wool for a clip. 

Wool classing is a specialist field that offers fantastic job opportunities across Australia. With this training, you'll learn how to prepare fleeces for classing; manage shearing and crutching operations; appraise and class wool and fleeces using industry descriptions; prepare wool based on its characteristics; and press and document wool for a clip. 

This course is suited more for people with experience in shearing or wool classing, but may also be suitable for those entering the industry.

You'll also gain skills in supervising work routines and teams; and managing staff performance and training. The course also covers shed duties; preparing for wool harvest;, quality assurance;  workplace health and safety; and first aid.

Completion of this nationally recognised and accredited qualification may provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification or university degree, should you wish to pursue further study in this field.

You will have the skills and knowledge to sort, classify and grade wool into various types for sale in the market.  You will learn skills in supervising work routines, staff performance, training, determining wool classing strategies, managing shearing and crutching operations, classing wool for special markets, providing information and advice on wool preparation, and implementing and monitoring quality assurance procedures.
