This qualification provides competencies to select, install, commission, fault find and maintain electrical and instrumentation equipment in buildings and premises; and instrumentation systems and core instrumentation equipment for process and control.
You'll learn about engineering maths; P & I diagrams; feedback systems, pressure, level, flow, and temperature analysis; fluid power; pneumatic instruments; variable speed drives, and much more!
You'll also learn how to select, install, commission, fault find and maintain electrical and instrumentation equipment, to be employed within process control in industries such as automation, mining, oil and gas, manufacturing, food and beverage.
This qualification is designed for a qualified tradesperson with an electrical background, but may be suitable for people without a trades background — please check with the TAFE or training provider delivering the program, and they will be able to advise on its suitability for you.
Completion of this qualification may provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification or university degree, should you wish to pursue further study in this field.

Become instrumental in maintaining high tech control systems
Are you a qualified tradesperson with an electrical trade background? If so this course will give you the practical skills and knowledge to be employed as an instrumentation and control technician. You will undertake both theoretical and practical training.
The theoretical component is online whilst the practical components can be completed at our Midland campus, in a single 2 week block - dates are listed in the timetable tab below. Or the course can be spread out over 6 months to suit your schedule. This course costs approximately $700 if you enrol in the units outlined in the important information tab but please note fees are subject to change.
It is possible to enrol in the Proportional Integral Derivative Skill Set concurrently and we will help you manage the order of completion of subjects so that you can achieve the pre-requisite units before commencing the PID program.

This nationally accredited qualification provides licenced electricians with the training, skills and knowledge required for the functional operation, calibration and fault finding of basic industrial instrumentation and electrical equipment. It also provides skill sets in working with pressure, level, temperature, and flow and their application to analytical instruments for process and control.

Current WA Unrestricted Electrician’s Licence or equivalent issued in an Australian State or Territory.
The Certificate IV in Electrical – Instrumentation provides a pathway for licensed electricians to gain a nationally recognised qualification in instrumentation. The qualifications cover theoretical and practical skills and knowledge to be able to select, install, commission, fault find and maintain equipment and systems for the control of plant, machines and processes.

This qualification provides competencies to enter the oil and gas or mineral processing industry which uses PLC interfaces with HART compliant field instrumentation where Instrumentation technician can:
• Monitor process plant and equipment conditions.
• Optimise process by analysing historical process and equipment performance trends.
• Record process deviation from desired process conditions.
• Undertake equipment and process health diagnostic and plan its overhaul/ repair or prior any breakdown.
• Respond to triggered process and shutdown alarms to operate the plant safely.

In this traineeship program, the candidate will undergo one on one practical training with industry experienced, qualified Instrument and Electrical Trainers. You will be exposed to hands on practicals in the following technologies: Flow - configuration and control, Pressure (suppression/elevation of transmitter), Radar / Ultrasonic configuration, Capacitance level configuration, Temperature (RTD / Thermocouples), PLC and HMI configuration, Configuration of smart devices via Hart modem and hand held configurator, P&ID control and Understanding how to test that Magnetic flow meter are operational.
The training includes the following:
- Work placement practical (2 site visits) – Logbook to be provided by TSA (Online tracking via TSA Tracking portal) – (200 hours in total)
- Self-paced learning for soft skills and technical units – Self-paced assessments to be competed (100 hours) 3. Face-to-face in class - either One day (Friday) per fortnight or 2 x Weeks block
