This course is suitable for anyone looking for an entry point into mechanical engineering occupation areas such as electrical instrumentation or as a maintenance mechanic within the metals, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries.

Get trades qualified as a fitter and turner, toolmaker, or metal machinist with great job opportunities.

You'll gain a range of skills and knowledge; including performing complex measurements and working to quality standards. You'll learn how to perform grinding and milling operations; undertake tasks related to fitting, assembly, manufacture, installation, modification, testing, fault finding, maintenance and service of mechanical equipment; different types of machinery; and the use of machine tools. You'll also gain your licence to operate a vehicle loading crane (capacity 10 metre tonnes and above).

Completion of this nationally recognised and accredited qualification can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study. Note: This course is usually available only as an apprenticeship.

They have practical experience and knowledge in engineering, manufacturing, and related industries. The qualification is designed to cater to learners who are seeking to enter into the engineering workforce or advance their careers and expand their trade-level competencies. The learners in this group may already be working in roles such as mechanical maintenance tradespersons. They have a foundation in their respective trades and are looking to enhance their skills and knowledge to take on more advanced engineering responsibilities. The learner group may include individuals employed in various workplace settings, including manufacturing plants, factories, foundries sites. Some learners within this group may already hold a relevant MEM Manufacturing and Engineering Training Package Certificate II or III qualifications. These learners have acquired competencies through their previous qualifications and can use credit recognition to streamline their progress towards completing this higher-level qualification. Overall, the learner group for this qualification consists of motivated and/or experienced individuals who are committed to advancing their careers as engineering tradesperson.
