Certificate III in Engineering - Industrial Electrician
Get trades qualified for a career in the electrical industry, and gain the skills and knowledge required to carry out electrical installations and repairs at a commercial or industrial level.
The Certificate III in Engineering - Industrial Electrician is the qualification completed by trade apprentices working under a qualified electrician. It covers the skills and knowledge required to carry out electrical installations and repairs at a commercial level.
You'll learn how to inspect and maintain wiring and electrical installations; use a range of industrial machines and equipment; apply WHS legislation and standards to electrical work; accurately perform engineering measurements and computations; weld and solder; and much more!
On completion of this qualification, you'll be eligible to apply for an unrestricted electrical licence, enabling you to work as a licensed electrician.
Completion of this nationally recognised and accredited qualification can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study.

Apprentices will learn through a combination of on-the-job employment and block training at North Regional TAFE.
Participants will learn how to perform some of the following tasks:
- Terminate and test electrical wiring
- Select appropriate cabling and circuit protection devices
- Install low voltage cabling and fit-off accessories
- Inspect, test and verify electrical installations
- Fault-find and troubleshoot
- Perform engineering measurements and computations
- Apply safety practices, procedures and compliance standards
- Solve problems in d.c. and low voltage a.c. circuits
SM TAFE has developed this course in collaboration with the oil, gas and resources industry to meet demand for skilled workers in industrial electrotechnology. Our training and assessment strategies ensure the industry has the best talent available. We are also the only provider that runs this course in Australia.
Students will be taught the analytical, technical and practical skills required to become a competent electrical technician ready for the complex processes and systems encountered in industrial environments. They will learn how to select, set-up, install, test, commission, fault-find, repair and maintain electrical systems and equipment in oil/gas installations, process plants and mine sites. On completion, graduates will be eligible to apply for an unrestricted electrical licence from Energy Safety/Department of Commerce, enabling them to work as an electrician.
