The SIT30921 Certificate III in Catering provides individuals with essential knowledge and practical cookery skills required for diverse catering operations. This qualification is designed for those aiming to work independently or with limited supervision, applying discretion and judgment within established plans, policies, and procedures. Although this qualification does not grant trade recognition as a cook, it serves as a valuable pathway toward achieving that goal and prepares graduates for employment in a range of settings, including hospitals, aged care facilities, sporting and entertainment venues, hotel banqueting departments, cook–chill production kitchens, and mobile catering businesses. While direct entry is available, prior vocational experience in support roles is recommended. Graduates may choose to progress to the SIT40621 Certificate IV in Catering Management or other Certificate IV qualifications within the service industry. To achieve this qualification, learners must successfully complete 20 units, comprising 10 core units and 10 elective units, selected to ensure a valid, industry-aligned vocational outcome.
Delivery location
The SIT30921 Certificate III in Catering equips students with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills needed to work effectively in catering operations across a variety of settings. This qualification prepares individuals to work independently or under supervision, exercising sound judgment within established procedures. Students learn how to safely store, prepare, display, serve, and dispose of food in accordance with organisational hygiene and health and safety standards. The course also covers the preparation and presentation of a range of dishes, including sandwiches, cheese platters, etc. Participants will gain practical experience in selecting, using, and cleaning food preparation equipment, and in following standard recipes to cook and present menu items to a professional standard.
There are 20 units in total, 10 core units and 10 elective units, elective units are relevant to the work environment and qualification, maintain the integrity of the AQF alignment and contribute to a valid, industry supported vocational outcome. To maximise the learning outcome, WAIFS makes sure that are always two trainers available. This is to ensure student’s needs gets addressed in a timely manner and they get more time with their trainer to learn.
