Certificate III in Animal Care Services (Pet Grooming)

Work as a pet groomer employed at a vet clinic or pet grooming service, or one day set up your own business!

This course is the perfect place to start your pet grooming career. You'll learn how to groom dogs and companion animals, as well as how to effectively communicate with customers and co-workers.

Skills and knowledge covered in this nationally recognised and accredited qualification include washing and brushing dogs; grooming companion animals; using pet grooming tools and equipment; understanding coat requirements for different dog breeds; how to enhance coat and skin condition; managing animal behaviour; and ensuring the wellbeing of animals.

Combine this it with a small business course, and you'll be on your way to setting up your own successful pet grooming business!

Completion of this course can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study. It's also an excellent pathway to an apprenticeship or traineeship in this industry.

Pet grooming is an important part of ensuring the overall welfare, health, hygiene and happiness of domestic animals. If you want to make a career out of your passion for our furry friends, this course will provide you with specialised training in all aspects of pet grooming services.

Learn from our team of experienced lecturers who can guide you to build a solid skillset in pet grooming, with a strong focus on low stress grooming and best industry practice. Grow your knowledge in providing a high standard of hygiene grooming for domestic pets including washing, brushing and drying dogs, product selection, using grooming tools and equipment, as well as specific grooming for different dog breeds and coats.

This is the most comprehensive qualification for pet grooming in Australia, and you’ll gain job ready skills for employment in any facility offering pet grooming services including, mobile or shop front salons, veterinary clinics, boarding kennels and pet retail outlets.

Students must have a genuine empathy for animals along with the communication skills and physical ability to successfully perform work placement in the pet grooming industry.

Our Murdoch campus has a dedicated Pet Grooming Clinic open to the general public which provides a simulated workplace environment. Students can gain hands-on experience in a real-life setting serving clients, taking care of animals and advancing their skills in pet grooming.
