This qualification provides a pathway to work in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

This qualification is designed to suit workplace-based trainees who are employed in a hospitality service role within a hospitality business. It is a comprehensive course designed to give participants entering the hospitality industry the necessary skills to perform the job role of a hospitality assistant. The qualification provides a pathway to work in many hospitality industry sectors and is suitable for a diverse range of employers including restaurants, food service businesses and hotel and accommodation Organisations. This qualification is targeted towards (but not exclusive to) School Based Trainees, who are employed in a hospitality business part-time, while also continuing their school education. Typical School Based Trainees will work between 7.5 and 20 hours per week as part of their employment arrangements.
