This course will give you job ready skills and knowledge to work as a data cabler or telecommunications technician. You'll learn how to install and maintain telecommunication cabling; secure electro technological equipment; assemble and dismantle components use cabling drawings; and understand standards, codes and specifications and workplace health and safety.
It includes ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority) requirements for open cabler registration.
Completion of this course can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study. It's also an excellent pathway to an apprenticeship or traineeship in this industry.

The Certificate II in Voice and Data is a traineeship-based qualification that provides new entrants with the practical skills and knowledge needed to begin a career in the communications and electrotechnology industry.
The program combines workplace learning with structured training, giving students the opportunity to develop their capabilities while working under supervision. Students will gain a strong understanding of work health and safety (WHS) regulations, risk control measures, and environmentally sustainable practices, ensuring safe and responsible work habits.
They will also learn to fabricate and assemble industry components, fix and secure electrotechnology equipment, and lay and terminate extra-low voltage (ELV) cabling, all of which are essential skills for voice and data work. The traineeship develops technical problem-solving skills, including working with direct current (DC) circuits and interpreting drawings, diagrams, codes, and standards.
Students will also gain experience installing and maintaining telecommunication cabling systems, as well as configuring the wireless functions of communication and data storage devices. By completing this traineeship, learners will have the foundational skills to work in voice and data communications, positioning them for further career development in the industry.
