Certificate II in Construction Pathways

Build a bright future with your construction career, with this pathway to being a qualified tradesperson and a range of trades to choose from.

Every tradesperson started as an apprentice, and the Certificate II in Construction Pathways gives you the skills to start your construction career the right way. 

This nationally recognised and accredited qualification is designed as a pathway to an apprenticeship in the building and construction industry. You'll get the basic skills and knowledge needed to start on a primary trade. You'll grow your understanding of building and construction, get valuable worksite experience, and have the key skills needed to be a support team member on a wide variety of construction work sites.

You'll gain introductory skills in joinery, carpentry, bricklaying and other occupations in general construction, giving you a taste of different jobs and what it's like to work in the industry, providing you with a quality foundation for a career in construction.

Completion of this course can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study. It's also an excellent pathway to an apprenticeship or traineeship in this industry.

Throughout this course, students will learn how to plan and organise work, carry out measurements and calculations and also learn about WHS requirements, policies and procedures relevant to the construction industry.

 

This Qualification has core units of competency requirements that are required in most Certificate III Qualifications. The elective options are structured to allow choice from areas of trade skills as an introduction to a range of occupations.

This qualification provides a pathway to the primary trades in the construction industry with the exception of plumbing. This qualification is designed to introduce learners to the recognised trade callings in the construction industry and provide meaningful credit in a construction industry Australian Apprenticeship. Through theory and practical course work you will learn to:

  • Undertake basic measurements and calculations to determine task and material requirements
  • Carry out WHS requirements through safe work practices in all on- or off-site construction workplaces
  • Communicate effectively with other workers in a construction workplace environment.

Completion of this course will give you the skills and knowledge required to pursue a career in the construction industry. This course is delivered via the Participation - Equity program in Western Australia.

This course aims to provide students with an insight into the construction industry and the opportunity to learn some basic construction skills and knowledge. 

This course focuses on health and safety, communication, planning and organising and an introduction to carpentry, identification, assembly and use of materials, tools and equipment.  This course is designed to introduce students to recognise trade callings in the construction industry and provide them with meaningful credit towards other accredited pathways.

This qualification provides a pathway to the primary trades in the construction industry with the exception of plumbing. Trade outcomes are predominantly achieved through an Australian Apprenticeship and this Certificate II allows for inclusion of skills suited for entry to off-site occupations, such as joinery and shop-fitting as well as carpentry, bricklaying and other occupations in general construction. This Certificate II is designed to introduce learners to the recognised trade callings in the construction industry and provide meaningful credit in a construction industry Australian Apprenticeship. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that are required in most Certificate III qualifications. The elective options are structured to allow choice from areas of trade skills as an introduction to a range of occupations. The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context. Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCWHS1001 covers this requirement.
