This nationally recognised and accredited qualification will give you essential skills and knowledge for a head start on your trades career.
You'll learn how to work in the construction, manufacture and installation of timber and composite products. including furniture such as lounges and chairs and cabinetry, for construction and installation of cabinetry in areas such as kitchens and bathrooms.
Skills and knowledge covered include using different kinds of timbers and finishing products, doing measurements and calculations to work out required materials, learning how to do different joints, use a range of tools and equipment, creating basic scale design drawings, and applying surface coatings with spray equipment.
Completion of this course can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study. It's also an excellent pathway to an apprenticeship or traineeship in this industry.

Cabinet makers work from plans or drawings to make home and office furniture, including built-in cupboards and fixtures for new homes and shops. Furniture making concentrates on the production of solid and free-standing furniture.
Many employers now prefer apprenticeship applicants to have completed a pre-apprenticeship. This course will give you the skills, knowledge and behaviours to prepare you and make you more competitive when applying for apprenticeship positions. It will give you a better chance of gaining an apprenticeship and a flying start in learning a trade.

You’ll finish the course prepared to work in furniture making with basic industry specific skills and knowledge to enable transition into an apprenticeship. Along with career skills such as communication and safe-work practices, you will master woodwork techniques including:- taking accurate measurements for cabinets and other furniture- creating basic technical drawings- using hand tools and power tools- assembling and finishing cabinets
