You’ll gain hands on fitting and wheel service skills, and — depending on where you do the course — have the opportunity to specialise in fitting and servicing tyres for light vehicles, motorcycles, heavy vehicles, agricultural or small plant, or earthmoving equipment.
Completion of this course can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study. It's also an excellent pathway to an apprenticeship or traineeship in this industry.

This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a range of tasks related to servicing tyres of motorcycles, light vehicles, heavy vehicles, agricultural vehicles, earthmoving and off-the-road vehicles in an automotive service and repair business.
The Certificate II in Automotive Tyre Servicing Technology prepares new employees or recognises and develops existing workers who service the following vehicle tyres in an automotive service or repair business:
- light vehicles
- heavy vehicles
- agricultural equipment
After completing this qualification you'll also be able to apply for a Motor Trade Association of Western Australia (MTAWA) repairers’ certificate in tyre servicing.
Some things you'll learn:
- How to identify basic automotive faults using troubleshooting processes
- How to use and maintain tools and equipment in an automotive workplace
- How to select vehicle tyres, wheels and rims for heavy vehicles, light vehicles, agricultural machinery, earthmovers and off road vehicles
- How to balance wheels and tyres
- How to inspect and service braking, steering and suspension systems
Current automotive workers and mechanics can expand their business offerings by expanding their skills in tyre servicing technology.
Undertaking a combination of classroom and workshop training and self-paced study, topics will be themed around following safe work practices, customer service and communication, identifying faults and troubleshooting processes, and how to use and maintain workshop tools and equipment. Students will learn about removing, inspecting, repairing, selecting, fitting and selling a range of tyres for different vehicles.
After completing the Certificate II in Automotive Tyre Servicing Technology students will also be able to apply for a Motor Trade Association of Western Australia (MTAWA) repairers’ certificate in tyre servicing.

Through theory and practical course work you will learn to:
- Select light vehicle tyres and wheels for specific applications

- Remove, inspect and refit light vehicle wheel and tyre assemblies
- Balance wheels and tyres
This course can be tailored to cover the skills and knowledge relating to the servicing of light, heavy, motorcycle or earthmoving and off-road vehicles.
Training delivered via Traineeship.
Delivery location
This qualification is delivered as part of a traineeship contract. The qualification provides the skills and knowledge necessary to select, remove and refit, balance and repair tyres. Successful completion of the qualification and traineeship contract allows the student to apply for a trade recognition as an Automotive Tyre Fitter (Level 2). Elective units allow specialisation in Light, Heavy or general service work and wheel alignment.
