The State Government is expanding access to building and construction training, with around 50 fee free and low fee TAFE courses available across Western Australia in 2026.
These courses give Western Australians the skills needed to pursue careers in the building and construction industry.
From January 2026, WA TAFE colleges will offer 26 fee free and 24 low fee courses in building and construction, including certificate I to IV qualifications, diplomas, skill sets, and pre-apprenticeships.
A $21.9 million investment by the State Government will add seven new building and construction courses to the fee free list, creating more opportunities for Western Australians to pursue careers in the industry.
Since early 2025, fee free pre-apprenticeships have been available in key housing trades such as bricklaying, cabinet making, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing. These programs combine nationally recognised training with hands-on workplace experience, giving students a strong foundation and valuable industry exposure.
Pre-apprenticeships also provide credits toward full apprenticeships, reducing overall training costs and helping students complete their qualifications sooner, accelerating their entry into the building and construction workforce.
