The State Government is backing the defence industry to ‘make it’ in WA, investing $11.5 million in training to grow the industry’s skilled workforce.
This investment supports the development of the Henderson Defence Precinct, which underpins tens of billions of dollars in Commonwealth investment and is expected to create more than 10,000 secure, skilled jobs over the next two decades.
Delivered through the AUKUS Defence Industry Incentive – a key initiative under the Made in WA plan – the investment will support 435 training places in crucial shipbuilding and maintenance trades such as fabrication.
Eligible defence industry employers may receive up to $20,000 per apprentice, helping to build a pipeline of talent for major projects including nuclear-powered submarine sustainment and the construction of Mogami-class frigates, following a historic agreement between Japan and the Commonwealth Government.
