Diploma of Marine Engineering
Hit the high seas with an exciting new career as a marine engineer! Get certified with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) as an Engineer Class 3 Near Coastal; Engineer Watchkeeper (STCW Engineer Watchkeeper Unlimited); or Electro-Technical Officer (STCW Electro-Technical Officer Unlimited).
Want to become a marine engineer certified with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA)? This qualification can get you certification as an:
- Engineer Class 3 Near Coastal;
- Engineer Watchkeeper (STCW Engineer Watchkeeper Unlimited); or
- Electro-Technical Officer (STCW Electro-Technical Officer Unlimited).
The course covers leadership and team work, fire prevention and firefighting, vessel security procedures, personal safety and social responsibility, operating survival craft and rescue boats, pollution prevention, monitoring vessel compliance including pollution prevention, working in confined spaces, engineering calculations, operational mathematics, and more! It will also qualify you to work as an assistant under the direct supervision of the chief engineer, or in the engine room of a vessel up to 80 metres long with propulsion power up to 3,000 kilowatts.
Note: This course is best suited for people who already have some background or experience in this field. If you're unsure, please seek advice from the training provider to see whether this course is the right choice for you.
Completion of this nationally recognised and accredited qualification may provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification or university degree, should you wish to pursue further study in this field.
