Diploma of Community Services (Case Management)

Discover new ways to make a genuine difference in the lives of individuals and families with this training. You'll build on your experience in community services and client support, develop specialised skills for working with disadvantaged groups and individuals  including case management, legal and ethical compliance, and providing support in critical situations.

If you are looking to build your career in the rewarding field of community services, this qualification will enable you to gain the skills to develop and implement community programs, facilitate and review case management, recognise and respond appropriately to critical situations including domestic and family violence, and manage legal and ethical compliance.

You'll learn to support people to make change in their lives to improve personal and social wellbeing and how to deliver, manage, and coordinate programs for people with diverse and complex needs. You’ll build skills including advocating for people who need support, counselling, and leading and facilitating group work. You will also build your leadership skills for the supervision of other workers and volunteers.

You may find employment as a program coordinator, early intervention worker, or case manager in the private and government sector, or not for profit organisations for youth programs, alcohol and drug centres, nonclinical mental health settings, multicultural services, disability and aged care.

Please note: You must be over 18 years of age to complete this course, and able to provide a National Police Clearance free of any criminal conviction.

This course is best suited to people with experience working in a community services or community support setting. Please speak with the TAFE college or training provider if you're unsure whether this is the right study option for you.

This qualification will give you specialised skills to be able to work in roles in community services, case management or social housing. You will be involved in the managing, co-ordinating and/or delivering of person-centred services to individuals, groups and communities. The Diploma of Community Services enables you to work in diverse areas such as community health, employment services and disability services to make a significant difference in client’s lives. The course gives you skills to manage, coordinate and deliver services to the clients with diverse need. This will also give you first-hand experience in assessing and reviewing information and improving service practices. This course is delivered over a period of 52 weeks, including work-based training for 6 weeks which is organised by Stanley College. The CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services equips students with the knowledge and practical skills required to become a qualified Community Care Worker or if they choose the Diploma of Community Services (Case Management) pathway, they could become a Case Worker. The course provides students with specialised knowledge needed to work with clients in a legal and ethical environment which promotes inclusion and growth within diverse communities. Students will understand the practices required to analyse the needs of individuals, provide them with case management to help them within their environments, assess the needs within communities and develop service programs to meet their needs. Students must meet the eligibility requirements and agree to the mandatory attendance requirements to apply for the Lower Fees, Local Skills subsidy. 

Attendance requirements are as follows for Existing Workers. Existing Worker: You will be considered an 'Existing Worker' if you work 20 or more hours for the same employer. If you are an 'Existing Worker', you will be required to attend class 1 day per week.
