This Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the nationally recognised entry-level qualification for those looking to embark on a career in the vocational education and training (VET) sector. It is aimed at those who wish to train and assess vocational students assisting them on their own learning pathways and is an essential requirement to employment in these roles.

Completion of this course meets the legislative requirements for individuals to deliver accredited training and assess the skill competence of VET students either in a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or within a work environment as part of a structured VET program.To enrol in this course you will need to demonstrate that you have current vocational skills, knowledge and expertise that you will be passing on to others after you become a qualified trainer.

This course is delivered in six clusters through a mix of both face-to-face workshops and online structured learning and assessment activities. You will need to successfully complete all clusters to obtain the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Covering the six topics below, delivered in 4 week blocks (schedule is listed in the Timetable section below) the program provides you with the latest qualification and the flexibility to complete it within 12 months. Completion of each skill set will see you gain a Statement of Attainment.Topics:

Informed choices - is this course right for me?

You'll need to have the following skills and knowledge to successfully undertake this study:

  • Effective language, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop a range of documentation (e.g., learning programs, assessment tools, written records)
  • Ability to plan and organise, read, research and develop learning and assessment resources
  • Workplace access (either your place of employment or a workplace you can access) - you must have access to a workplace where you can assess small group training and assessment. This condition is vital to enable completion of the assessment requirements for the course.
  • Digital literacy and sound working knowledge and application of computer programs e.g., MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint. Essentials to complete the course include:
    • Access to a computer or laptop 
    • Reliable broadband Internet access
    • Skills and computer to be able to edit word documents (.docx)
    • Access to video recording device (including sound) with the capability to transfer to a computer (e.g. iPhone or similar smartphone)

The TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the industry standard qualification for those who deliver and assess training. This qualification will provide participants with the skills, knowledge and passion to deliver interesting and informative training sessions to groups and individuals, navigate the Australian training system and undertake competency-based assessments against any benchmark or standard. The TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment reflects the role of individuals who are engaged in delivering training and assessment services in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) or other sectors. Students may have existing qualifications and technical skills in any given vocation or profession yet require skills or recognition in training and assessment. To enrol in this qualification, participants must have demonstrated vocational competency in a proposed teaching and assessing area, solid language and literacy skills, access to a computer and internet and computer literacy. The duration of TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is 12-18 months. The average time it takes to complete varies significantly depending on the skills and knowledge you already hold relevant to training and assessment. If, for example, you are attending the facilitated classes and you have completed the relevant activities, you will still need to allow the following suggested time to complete the qualification. 4 hours a week – 18 months 6 hours a week – 12 months.

Trainwest (RTO Code 51807) deliver the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. The course is delivered face to face at our facilities in Belmont, Karratha and Port Hedland with assessments to complete outside of these sessions. Attaining this qualification enables you to deliver and assess nationally accredited training in line with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (2015). It is also an opportunity to get off the tools and share your expertise in your industry. This course is also delivered in Perth at our Training Centre in Belmont.
