A professional career in allied health can provide you with many opportunities to work in different healthcare settings — from small local medical centres through to large private and public hospitals, to schools and private medical practices, as well as in specialised facilities or organisations providing allied health services such as community rehabilitation and mental health clinics.
You'll learn how to deliver therapeutic support to allied health professionals, gaining skills and knowledge to recognise healthy body systems; confirm physical health status; and support people with chronic diseases and dementia. You will also gain knowledge of safe work practices, legal and ethical considerations, and current industry standards.
Completion of this qualification may provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification or university degree, should you wish to pursue further study in this field.

Do you want to make a difference in other people’s lives? Allied health assistants work with a range of clients to improve quality of life.
This course covers a broad range of units to provide you with the skills necessary to seek employment as as an allied health assistant (AHA).
You may find employment in both public and private health settings such as hospitals and community rehabilitation, aged care facilities, schools, mental health clinics, private practices and not for profit organisations.
You will learn how to work with children, adults and older people with a range of physical disabilities, mental health conditions, developmental delays, communication difficulties and/or social disadvantage, all done with the knowledge of safe work practices, legal and ethical considerations and current industry standards.
You will gain the required knowledge and skills through classroom discussions, simulation activities and workplace learning. You will be supported in learning the required knowledge and skills through classroom discussions and simulation activities before undertaking a work placement. Online learning makes up a small part of the course delivery but you will also have access to online resources to reinforce classroom learning.
You will have access to a team of allied health professionals who are able to share their experiences and support your learning throughout the course.
Some students have gone on to study allied health degrees at university after this course has ignited their passion.
This qualification reflects the role of a new worker wanting to become an Allied Health Assistant and gain entry to the aged care, disability, and other health sectors. The Allied Health Assistance works under the delegation and/or supervision of Allied Health Professionals (AHP).
Students will gain the skills to assist allied health professionals (physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech pathologists) with the implementation of therapy programs to improve a client's quality of life and independence.

- Supporting client rehabilitation
- Supporting client maintenance therapy
Learning:
- Classroom-based at Murdoch Campus – All theory and simulations will take place on campus.
- Blended study using Blackboard LMS
- At home study to consolidate in-class learning
- Compulsory Work Placement of a minimum of 120 hours
