You'll learn how to work effectively in a sport, fitness and recreation workplace — running group sessions and providing quality service. The course covers: risk management, first aid, emergency responses, life saving, pool maintenance, instructing clients on basic swimming and water safety, and more!

You will be competent in a range of activities and functions requiring autonomous work within locations such as fitness centres, sporting grounds or complexes, leisure and aquatic centres and community recreation centres. The course provides the skills and knowledge that are required to become a recreation officer, activity operation officer, sport and recreation attendant, community activities officer, leisure services officer. Graduates could work at locations such as fitness centres, sporting grounds or complexes, leisure and aquatic centres and community recreation centres.
Delivery location
This qualification reflects the role of individuals with well-developed skills and knowledge required to deliver recreational services. Using discretion and judgement, they work with some independence and under limited supervision using clearly defined plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities. Specialisations are available for customer service officers, recreation officers, pool lifeguards and swim teachers but are not mandatory to achieve this qualification. This qualification provides a pathway to work for any type of sport, aquatic or recreation organisation including commercial, not-for-profit, community and government organisations.
