Through this training, you'll learn how to collect blood and other pathology samples then prepare, record and despatch for testing. You'll have job ready skills to work in a blood collection and/or testing setting, and can grow your career from here.
Depending on your training provider, you will be able to choose specialist elective units including electrocardiography (ECG), first aid, recognising healthy body systems, or drug and abuse testing.

HLT37215 Certificate III in Pathology Collection is training you to be a phlebotomist, a person who collects blood and specimens. You will gain knowledge and practical skills to equip you to work as a pathology collector of phlebotomist in a health setting. This course will also help you gain transferable skills that you will use in other health related studies in your future career journey. Entry Requirements:
- Academic level: Completed of High School Certificate or equivalent
- English Proficiency 10 mins interview (face to face or online) Complete a LLN test
- Proficiency in using computers
- Minimum Age: 18 years old or above.

The HLT37215 Certificate III in Pathology Collection is a nationally recognised qualification that gives you the practical skills to work confidently in a real medical environment. You'll learn venous blood collection, specimen handling, first aid, infection control, drugs of abuse testing and more - all grounded in hands-on training from day one.
Graduates are ready to step into roles at pathology collection centres, GP clinics, hospitals, specialist rooms and other public and private health settings. The course runs over 16 weeks using a blended delivery model. You'll start with a flexible six-week eLearning phase you can complete at your own pace, followed by 10 weeks of face-to-face classroom training two days a week at LTT's training centre in Osborne Park - just a 13-minute walk from Glendalough train station.
LTT organises a minimum of 35 hours of clinical placement with one of its partner pathology providers, where you'll collect blood from real patients and apply everything you've learned in an actual healthcare setting. Assessment includes practical and written tasks, online learning modules and a minimum of 20 live blood collections.
On successful completion, you'll receive your Certificate III in Pathology Collection bearing the Nationally Recognised Training logo. If you have previous study or experience, recognition of prior learning (RPL) and credit transfer options are available during the application process.
