Grow your horticulture skills
This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to work effectively in the horticulture industry, including the private sector, local councils or state government. If you have industry experience this course will enhance your skills.
As part of this course you will undertake three units that have been designed to meet the Department of Health requirements to gain a Pest Management Technician Licence to control weeds and other minor pests in lawns and gardens, landscaping, bushland or minesite rehabilitation.

You may be able to attain a dual qualification, adding the Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management adding to this Certificate III in Horticulture by enrolling in additional units.
Throughout this course, students will learn how to propagate and maintain nursery plants, install and maintain irrigation systems, treat weeds, pests and diseases safely, and use a range of horticultural equipment.
Students will also learn about effective pruning, working safely with chemicals, identifying various plants and improving soil conditions.

Study in specialised facilitiesOur dedicated Murdoch Student Garden Centre is pivotal to the learning experience for students and teaches excellence in service delivery. Facilities include extensive garden spaces for design practice, computer labs with contemporary software and dedicated sheltered nursery areas. Students can learn through the application of hands-on skills in an environment that reflects current industry practices and simulates a real-life workplace experience.
As part of their Murdoch campus(opens in a new tab) (opens in a new tab) studies, students propagate natives, herbs and some exotic plants suitable to WA's climate. These plants are then prepared at the on-campus nursery and greenhouse for retail sales at the Student Garden Centre Plant Sale which is open to the general public for a short time each May and November, allowing students to satisfy the retail skill-building requirements of their horticulture course.
