You'll learn about surface preparation; including blasting and high pressure jetting, protective coating applications, welding, and surface testing. You'll also gain skills in professional level mechanical cutting, metal fabrication, and a wide range of welding processes. The course also covers using hand and power tools and industrial machinery, and taking measurements and performing calculations to prepare for a project. 

This course is usually available only as an apprenticeship, to become a licensed tradesperson.

 Completion of this nationally recognised and accredited qualification can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study.

K.L Mills & N.A Mills T/A NAM Training offer apprenticeships in the MEM30319 Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (Surface Finishing). We facilitate all training and assessment in the apprentice’s workplace.
Units of Competency (Units) are selected in the Learning and Assessment Plans to meet workplace needs and industry standards. Unit selections can be tailored to suit abrasive blasting/industrial painting, anodising/electroplating and/or powder coating.
Training delivery uses a combination of a face to face approach, one to one or groups of apprentices.
The trainer will negotiate the training and assessment arrangements with worksite representatives and supervisors.  
Some of this apprenticeship may also be achieved through formal skills recognition assessment processes such as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).  Under an apprenticeship, RPL may be provided for some of the qualification where appropriate, with training and assessment provided for the remainder.
Apprentices may take 6-48 months (according to apprenticeship requirements) to complete the curriculum. The enrolment term will depend on the current skills and knowledge of the apprentice, and is negotiated with the apprentice and the employer.
