Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance)

The Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance) will teach you about environmental and safety protocols for civil construction workers; as well as job-specific technical skills such as digging, levelling, spreading and compacting materials, repairing potholes, traffic control, draining and dewatering the worksite, safely disposing of non-toxic materials, locating and protecting underground pipes and wiring systems, and so much more!

With WA constantly expanding, there's always going to be new roads to build and old roads to maintain. This nationally recognised qualification could set you up for a great future! Completion of this course can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study.

This qualification is delivered through an apprenticeship-based pathway and provides a trade outcome as well as specialist fields of work in bituminous surfacing. In this course, individuals will learn how to hand spread asphalt, operate small plant and equipment, read and interpret plans and specifications. Additionally, individuals will learn how to repair potholes, conduct patching operations and gain skills in implementing traffic management plans. Training and assessment will comprise of a combination of classroom-based learning at one of our training centres, online work activities, and onsite delivery. Whilst job roles can vary across industry sectors, career opportunities include Road Paver, Asphalt Labourer. This course equips individuals with the skills and knowledge to work as skilled operators in road and maintenance, covering everything from construction to upkeep and maintenance tasks. You will gain practical skills and theoretical knowledge in areas such as, road construction and maintenance techniques, safe working procedures, traffic management, read and interpret plans and specifications as well as the operation of various earthmoving machines. This qualification may lead to roles as an earthmoving operator, road construction maintenance labourer, traffic management officer and leading hand.
