If you would like to work in civil construction and specialise in projects that involve the construction of pipe networks for water mains, storm water systems, or sewers, this is the course for you!
You'll learn about on the job safety, teamwork and communication; using explosive power tools; installing support for trenches; laying pipes; spreading and compacting materials; levelling, draining and dewatering the site; traffic control; and much more!
Depending on your TAFE or training provider, you may also be able to get industry permits and licences such as rigging; dogging; scaffolding; and working at heights.

Are you looking for a career in construction laying pipes?
When you complete the Certificate III in Civil Construction (Pipe Laying) you'll be building a career as a mobile plant operator, bridge construction worker, pipe layer, or road construction worker.
SM TAFE provides quality training that serves both employers and employees. Employers gain the benefits of skilled and accredited employees and the employee gains the knowledge, skill, confidence and a sense of pride when completing the qualification. Training for any required gap units can be scheduled to align with workplace operations and may be conducted at the employer’s place of business if required.
All delivery is done off campus at clients' sites or specialised resourced locations in the metropolitan area.

This qualification is delivered through an apprenticeship-based pathway and reflects the role of a skilled operator working in civil construction, who applies a broad range of skills in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. This nationally recognised qualification prepares an individual for working on a civil construction site, specialising in either water mains, storm-water systems, or sewer pipelines. The course covers:
- on-the-job safety and communication,
- using explosive power tools,
- installing trench support,
- laying pipes,
- spreading and compacting materials,
- levelling, draining and dewatering the construction site
This course is suitable for those who are employed in quarrying, plant operation, civil construction, earthmoving, or general operations. Training and assessment will comprise of a combination of classroom-based learning at one of our training centres, online work activities, and onsite delivery.
