Certificate III in Auslan

Gain an understanding of deaf community principles and practices, for working with Auslan signers/users in everyday social and personal contexts.

This nationally recognised and accredited qualification provides signing skills to communicate in Auslan with some confidence on familiar, routine and non-routine matters. Communication may take place in any situation including personal, public, social, employment and educational domains.

This qualification aligns to an adaptation, for sign languages, of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), BI: Independent User.

You will learn how to

  • understand the main points when clear, standard language (which for sign language users may be a locally used variation) is used and the topics are familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc;
  • deal with most situations likely to arise where the sign language is used;
  • produce simple connected text on topics, which are familiar, or of personal interest; and
  • describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

Completion of this course can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study.
