The role of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers is crucial to improving health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers across Australia work in a variety of environments and settings — this can be a highly rewarding career making a difference to people's lives.
Through this nationally recognised and accredited qualification, you'll learn how to interpret available information and to develop advocacy skills to assist individuals and community members using discretion and judgment.
The course is based on a set of national health worker competency standards, contextualised specifically for the Aboriginal community. You'll also learn about providing social and/or emotional support; identifying health issues, needs and strategies; and how to assist with basic health screening, promotion and education services.
Completion of this course can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study. It's also an excellent pathway to a traineeship in this industry.

Face to face classroom delivery over multiple study blocks, throughout a 10 month course duration. Includes clinical work placements. Available to indigenous persons in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Delivered against Department of Training and Workforce Development's PIT and Participation programs.
