This nationally recognised and accredited qualification will develop the skills required to start your career hands on in a cattle station as a farmhand, including livestock health and handling, fencing, and machinery operation. You will also learn skills to use in your community such as landscaping, irrigation and growing your own vegetables.

This course is delivered by industry experts who have years of experience working in rural and agricultural environments, and will help you to gain practical skills to work safely on rural worksites and carry out a range of manual tasks — as well as operate farm machinery and tools. After completing this course, you will be job ready for entry level positions in agriculture, farming, market gardens, and mixed rural enterprises.

Completion of this course can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study. It's also an excellent pathway to an apprenticeship or traineeship in this industry.

This qualification is delivered by industry experts who have years of experience working in rural environments. You will gain practical skills to work safely on rural work sites and carry out a range of manual tasks — as well as operate machinery and tools.

Students who complete this course can expect to find employment in entry level positions, in agriculture, market gardens, and mixed rural enterprises.

Throughout this course, students will undertake a combination of written assignments and hands-on tasks including tractor operations, cattle processing and mustering in teams. 

Students will gain skills in machine operations, horse husbandry, handling and caring for livestock, treating weeds as well as installing and maintaining fencing.

After completing this course, students will be job-ready for entry-level positions in agriculture, farming, market gardens, and mixed rural enterprises.

This Qualification is taught by industry professionals with extensive experience in rural settings.

This course is currently only delivered to cattle stations and prisons.

Certificate II in Rural Operations is delivered by BJ’s passionate industry trainers who have many years of industry experience. You will develop the skills required to gain employment in local cattle stations located near your communities. You will also develop skills to use in your community such as landscaping, irrigation and growing your own vegetables. This qualification reflects the role of Farmhands who perform animal husbandry and farm work in cattle stations. Topics covered in this course include livestock health and handling, fencing, and machinery operation. Funding is available through the WA Participation Equity Program.
