This nationally recognised and accredited qualification is the perfect introduction to working in disability care, and can give you a strong head start on a paid traineeship at Certificate III level. 

You'll learn how to follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to disability or some other reason and gain knowledge and skills to work effectively with people with disability in a way that enables them to maintain independence; provide individualised support; work safely; and working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. You will also undertake work placement in a disability support organisation, giving you hands on skills and experience. What a great way to start a great career!

Completion of this course can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study. It's also an excellent pathway to a traineeship in this industry.

The Introduction to Disability (pre-traineeship) is an opportunity for secondary school students to start their career in the disability services sector whilst studying at school. Meaningful work experience with local organisations will form an essential part of the pre-traineeship, ensuring students can make informed decision about their career pathway while gaining valuable hands-on experience in real workplaces. Students may then choose to progress to further studies in the many exciting areas of the community services sector or look to gain employment in a rewarding industry where they can support people living with disability towards independence, having a real impact. Government funded places for this qualification may be available under the Participation – Equity funding model, subject to eligibility.

The Certificate II in Introduction to Disability Care reflects the role of support workers who follow an individualised care plan to provide person centred care and social support to clients with a disability.

Care worker’s duties include:

  • Carrying out activities to maintain an individual's well-being through personal care and/or general activities of daily living
  • Carry out tasks related to an individualised client care plan
  • Support community participation and social inclusion
  • Reporting directly to a supervisor

The course is delivered at our dedicated training facility in Rivervale with a mandatory work placement of 100 hours facilitated at an Amana Living Residential Care location in the metro area.

Amana Living Training Institute has Government funded places for this qualification available under the Priority Industry Training and Traineeship funding models.
