Certificate II in General Education for Adults

Take your first steps to a brighter future, by building your skills and confidence through this supportive course.

If you would like to build your confidence and skills in reading, writing and numeracy (maths) in a variety of areas to meet your personal needs and help you be more active in the community, workplace and further education and training, this course is for you. 

This nationally accredited and recognised qualification will provide you with the skills to enter further study and employment, through supportive and practical training. You will learn about planning and setting goals; carrying out projects; advanced reading and writing; how to create basic documents; computer skills; and maths and problem solving skills.

The Certificate II in General Education for Adults is approximately equivalent to Year 10 for the purposes of applying for a TAFE course and will meet the entry requirements for most Certificate II, III or IV level TAFE courses.

The Certificate II in General Education for Adults assists you to develop your reading, writing, maths and employability skills to prepare you for a further study pathway. The course caters for a wide range of students within a supportive, flexible, adult learning environment. 

Successful completion of this course will meet the entry requirements for most Certificate II or III TAFE courses.

All General Education students are required to participate in a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) session to determine their current LLN level. This will help determine if the course you have chosen is a good fit for you and at an appropriate level. Please note we have limited places for our courses and attending the session does not guarantee you a place.

Please note This course will only run with sufficient enrolment numbers for the intakes on each campus, and it is not equivalent to completing years 10, 11 or 12.

This CGEA course provides opportunities for skill development in reading, writing, numeracy and information technology skills. It is designed to meet personal needs, facilitate community participation, or workplace and further education and training options. This Certificate provides the equivalent of Year 10 Maths and English for those who may have missed out and need this level as a prerequisite to other training courses.

Certificate II outcomes focus on the development of literacy skills to read, interpret, evaluate and create a range of texts and to apply knowledge of everyday and formal numeracy in a range of contexts. Outcomes also focus on the skills and knowledge to conduct a project, investigate pathways and develop, implement and review a learning plan.

Certificate II CGEA is recognised as the equivalent of Year 10 English and Maths, by organisations like the Police, and Australian Defence Force (Army, Navy and Airforce), and is accepted to meet their minimum entry requirements.

Skill Hire's Certificate II in General Education, TradeStart Program is the perfect way to build up core skills before stepping into further study or employment. Delivered in our Albany, Bunbury, Joondalup and Forrestfield campuses, this course focuses on developing language, literacy and numeracy skills using real-world themes and applications. Course is run over 9 weeks aligned with the school terms to prepare you for other pathways or employment opportunities incorporating work ready accreditations such as White Card and First Aid.
