Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pathway - Trades) (Wall and Ceiling Lining Pre-apprenticeship)

Get a head start on your future, with the job ready skills that employers are looking for in a new apprentice. Learn how to read and interpret building plans, carry out measurements and calculations to determine quantities of materials needed for a job, erect and dismantle scaffolding, work safely at heights to fix standard plasterboard sheets and paper-based cornices, prepare surfaces for plastering, and use a range of tools and materials.

Most homes and buildings use plasterboard sheeting for internal walls and ceilings, and plaster or paper-based cornices and trimmings. These go together like a piece of patchwork, and it's the wall and ceiling lining team who come in and do the fixing and joining — then the smoothing of all the joins — to get that perfect finish ready for the painters and/or plasterers.

With this course, you'll learn how to read and interpret building plans, and carry out measurements and calculations to determine quantities of materials needed for a job. You'll also learn about erecting and dismantling scaffolding, working safely at heights to fix standard plasterboard sheets and paper-based cornices, how to prepare surfaces for plastering, and a range of tools and materials used in the trade.

Completion of this nationally recognised and accredited qualification can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study. It's also an excellent pathway to an apprenticeship in the construction industry.
