
Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pathway - Trades)
Considering getting into the building and construction industry, and starting an apprenticeship, but you're not sure what field? This course is for you! You'll gain an understanding of the industry and what's involved in the different trades, to help decide your future career pathway.
This nationally recognised and accredited course is designed for people, including school–based students, who are considering a career or a pathway into the construction industry.
Your training will be a combination of practical workshops and theoretical classroom learning, and you will also complete a work placement component where you'll gain hands on experience working in construction. You'll gain an overview of the industry, and a skill set that can set you up to go into a specific trade area.
Completion of this course can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study. It's also an excellent pathway to an apprenticeship or traineeship in this industry.

This is a pre-vocational course for learners seeking a career in a construction trade. The first stage of the course is common to 11 construction trades and provides an introduction to the industry, its culture, occupations, job roles and workplace expectations.
The units of competency cover essential occupational health and safety requirements, the industrial and work organisation structure, communication skills, work planning, and basic use of tools and materials.
The latter stage of the course provides the learner with a choice to complete specific competencies from a particular trade stream that lead directly into a trade qualification, with full articulation and credit transfer, when seeking an apprenticeship.

Looking to explore a career in residential trades? The Certificate II in Building and Construction (Pathway - Trades) is a pre-employment course with students selecting either a carpentry or brick-laying specialisation designed to get you ready for an apprenticeship or a trade career. The course provides hands on training over 9 weeks in our trade campus at Bunbury before embarking on approximately 4 weeks (minimum 110 hours) of work placement in industry.
Delivery location

A unique trade-traineeship for entry level learners wishing to complete their Certificate II level training via an employment-based role. A trade-traineeship is perfect for those that are employment ready and wish to engage in a medium-term traineeship as a pathway to a full-time trade apprenticeship. This 12-month traineeship is versatile and can be customised to support the skills needs of the workplace for both the employer and learner.
