You'll learn about how vehicle systems and subsystems operate, and how to carry out jobs including inspecting and servicing cars; troubleshooting, dismantling and assembling engines; servicing and repairing brakes and suspension systems; understanding and repairing cooling systems; servicing fuel injection systems; changing tyres and wheels, servicing gearboxes and transmissions; and basic electrical and general repairs on cars.
Best of all, you'll learn on a range of different vehicles, in a fully equipped workshop!
Completion of this course can provide credit towards a relevant higher level qualification, should you wish to pursue further study. It's also an excellent pathway to an apprenticeship in the automotive industry.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a range of servicing tasks in the automotive retail, service and repair industry. This program provides early exposure to trade skills, helping students build confidence, develop practical abilities, and explore career options in the automotive sector.
This qualification has a mandatory work placement component requiring students to complete a minimum number of 150 hours in order to achieve the qualification.
This qualification includes a work experience component which learners must complete as part of their training and assessment. Students are required to complete 150 hours in the workplace. Central Regional TAFE lecturers will assist to organise, prepare, and support students for their placement and monitor their progress as required.

Automotive apprentices and pre-apprentices enjoy state of the art facilities, including new vehicles, specialised repair and diagnostic equipment, fully equipped spray painting ovens, specialised workrooms and workshops. This excellent training program is highly competitive.
Kwinana campus offers specialist training in automotive air conditioning with purpose-built air-conditioning rigs, providing students with a high quality of learning and practical skills. It also boasts a large modern, indoor workshop where students undertake all their learning and training.
Delivery location
This qualification will provide you with skills and knowledge used in the automotive vehicle servicing sector. You will learn skills in carrying out servicing operations, inspecting and servicing engines, steering and suspension systems, repairing single electrical circuits, using and maintaining workplace tools and equipment. You will also learn how to apply safe work practices and apply basic automotive troubleshooting processes.
The aim of this pre-apprenticeship is to provide learners with industry specific training to gain skills, knowledge and behaviours to enable transition into an indentured apprenticeship.
